Susan B. Anthony House

Susan B. Anthony House, located in Rochester, New York, was the residence of Susan B. Anthony for forty years. She was a prominent persona in the women’s rights movement. Susan B. Anthony was detained at the entrance of the main parlor for having voted for the first time in 1872’s Presidential Election. She lived in the house till her passing. The house was bought to be used as a memorial in 1945 and then declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The house has been recorded in the Historic American Buildings Survey.

The Susan B. Anthony House is located at 17 Madison Street in Rochester, NYC. The house can be accessed through the Susan B. Anthony Museum entrance on 19 Madison Street. Today, the Susan B. Anthony House is a museum and learning museum open to visitors to visit and participate in programs from 11-5 every Tuesday to Sunday, excluding major holidays. Its full name is National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House. Its Visitor Centre and Museum Shop are located in the old house next to it, 19 Madison Street, owned by Hannah Anthony Mosher, sister of Susan and Mary Anthony. The purpose of the Susan B. Anthony House is to preserve Susan B. Anthony’s vision alive and relevant. A1 Bed Bug Exterminator Rochester

The house is home to every year a celebration to mark the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution that allowed voters to elect women. In 2011 The New York Times reported that the museum in the house had sold a lot of “a $250 handbag made of a fake alligator that was inspired by one of Anthony’s club bags, similar to a doctor’s bag,” noting that for Anthony, “a bag was not a fashion statement but a symbol of independence at a time when women were not allowed to enter into a contract or even open a bank account.”

Memorabilia and papers about the suffrage movement were given to the house upon the requests of Carrie Chapman Catt, Susan B. Anthony’s successor as the President of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. They are kept at the River Campus Libraries of the University of Rochester.

The president of the House addressed the president to “decline” President Donald Trump’s pardon for August 2020 Anthony Anthony on the basis that accepting the pardon could, in error, “validate” the trial proceedings similar to paying the fine of $100 could have.

An early fire on the 26th of September, 2021, caused damage to the rear porch and doorway and caused smoke destruction inside. Video surveillance showed that someone was being suspicious at the moment that the fire started.
